What kind of security protection is used by your Public Bank Net Banking service ?  Top

Strong 128-bit SSL Encryption

We have applied numerous security protection schemes in our system. Besides the communication channel is protected by a 128-bit Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption, your User ID, password and transaction detail are further protected by strong encryption, including 1024-bit RSA and 128-bit Triple-DES, to made sure it is not accessible by any other.

Automatic Time-out Mechanism

To avoid transaction spoofing, session will be automatically time-out when it is idle for 20 minutes. Furthermore, we have a strong session control, which verify that every single transaction must be initiated by the original login user.

Firewall

We are concerned that information arrived at the Public Bank Net Banking are processed with great care. Our systems are protected by firewalls which are a combination of industrial strength computer hardware and software that securely separates the Internet from Public Bank's internal computer systems. The Public Bank Net Banking is also physically located in an isolated area with restricted access.

Why I cannot achieve 128-bit SSL protection? Top

If you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer, you can check whether your version can support 128-bit SSL encryption or not by the following procedure:

  • Start Internet Explorer
  • Click "Help" on the menu bar and select "About Internet Explorer"
  • The field "Cipher Strength" should show "128-bit

If the Cipher Strength is 40-bit instead of 128-bit, you should then click the "Update Information" just beside the field. It will bring you to the Microsoft web site for downloading a Microsoft Internet Explorer High Encryption Pack.

If you are using Netscape Communicator, please follow the procedure below to ensure 128-bit encryption:

  • Click "Security" on the toolbar
  • Select "Navigator" in the left column
  • Make sure the option "Enable SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) v3" is checked

Press the "Configure SSL v3" button and make sure all ciphers option is enabled except 'No encryption with an MD5 MAC'
